The occasion
A first birthday is a party for the parents and a photo for the child
The one-year-old will not remember it, which is exactly why the photos matter. A first birthday is designed around one picture: the child in front of a backdrop with a number one, the cake and the family. Everything else, the garland on the dessert table, the balloons on the floor, the sign with the name, supports that picture.
Event Creation designs first birthdays at homes, condo party rooms and halls across Toronto and the GTA. Our circle arch frame with balloons is listed on this website from $280, a 12 ft garland from $250, a 4 ft marquee number from $320 and a balloon bouquet from $85.
We install before guests arrive and take everything down afterwards where the listing includes takedown.
The hero moment
Design directions for a first birthday
Soft pastel garland and circle arch
Blush, sage, cream and gold balloons on a circle arch with a wood or acrylic name sign. The most requested look for both boys and girls.
Wild one and jungle
Greens, browns and mustard with a green wall backdrop, animal props and a balloon garland.
Hot air balloon and clouds
Sky blue and white with a hot air balloon display, listed from $150, and cloud balloons.
Themed character colours
The colours of a favourite show or book without the licensed artwork, so the design still looks like the family’s own.
Cake smash corner
A small backdrop and a marquee number one set up for the cake smash photos, separate from the main backdrop.

First birthdays at home, in party rooms and halls
Most first birthdays happen at home or in a condo party room in North York, Scarborough, Mississauga or Vaughan, where an eight-foot ceiling suits a 5.5 ft arch and a 12 ft garland. Larger family celebrations in halls in Markham and Richmond Hill take a full backdrop and a dessert table.
We plan the photo wall where the light is best, usually opposite a window, and keep floor balloons away from the cake smash corner.
Setup takes about 60 to 90 minutes before guests arrive.

Entertainment and extras
Keeping the older children busy
A first birthday usually has cousins and siblings between two and eight, and a bubble show or a character visit keeps them happy while the adults talk. A balloon twister doubles as the favour.
A classic photo booth in front of the backdrop gives every family a print. Cakes and desserts and goodie bags finish the table.
For a baby’s first year album, the same backdrop can be reused for a sip and see or a baptism.

Questions
First birthday decorations: frequently asked questions
Cost, timing and the photo wall.
How much do first birthday decorations cost in Toronto?
A circle arch with balloons is listed from $280, a 12 ft garland from $250 and a marquee number from $320 on this website. A full Signature setup with a backdrop and dessert table is quoted as one design and confirmed in writing.
What are good first birthday party ideas?
Build the party around one photo wall with the number one, keep the colours to three, plan a cake smash corner, and book one activity for the older children. Everything else can stay simple.
Can you set up in a condo party room?
Yes. We size the arch and garland to the ceiling, coordinate with the concierge and work within the room booking window.
How long does setup take?
About 60 to 90 minutes for an arch, a garland and a dessert table; longer for a full backdrop with entertainment.
Can the number one be a marquee light?
Yes. A 4 ft marquee number with balloons is listed from $320 and photographs well in daylight and at night.
Do you provide the cake table styling?
Yes. Linens, plinths, a backdrop and a garland for the cake and desserts; cakes and desserts themselves are on the cakes page.
Can I keep the balloons after?
Yes. Many families keep the garland and the balloons; we collect frames and stands.
Are the balloons safe around a one-year-old?
Balloons are tied and placed above reach, and popped or loose balloons are cleared at takedown. An adult should supervise floor balloons during the party.
Which areas do you serve?
Toronto, North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill and Oakville.
How far ahead should I book?
Two to four weeks is comfortable; weekends in spring and summer book first.
