    What we do

Graduation decorations for families, schools and grad committees

Graduation decorations do one job above all others: they give the graduate a place to stand and be photographed with everyone who helped them get there. Event Creation is a Toronto event decoration company, and for graduations we bring the backdrop, the balloons, the lit-up class year and, if you want it, the photo booth. We deliver, install and, on most of our backdrop products, take everything down again afterwards.

Our clients for this season are parents hosting at home, families booking a restaurant room or hall, student councils and parent committees planning a prom, and colleges or training programs marking a cohort's final day. The scale changes but the questions are the same: where will photos happen, which colours tell the story, and how do we set up without getting in the way of the ceremony day itself.

    The hero moment

Build the party around the class-year photo

The picture every family wants is the graduate, gown on, standing beside the year they finished. Our 4 ft marquee numbers are made of wood with LED lights and come in digits 0 to 9, so they read clearly from across a room and glow in evening photos. The catalogue lists one or two numbers with balloon decoration, which suits a two-digit class year. A full four-digit year is something we quote individually.

Behind the numbers, choose one surface. The grass wall rental is an 8 ft by 8 ft boxwood hedge wall with a balloon garland, and its deep green flatters almost any gown colour. A shimmer wall gives a more formal, evening feel and suits prom. A plain wall at home can work too, framed with a 12 ft or 20 ft garland that climbs one side and sweeps across the top.

Think about who will be in the frame. Graduation photos are rarely solo: grandparents, siblings and friend groups of six or eight all take a turn. An 8 ft wide wall holds a group comfortably, while a narrower arch suits individual portraits. Leave at least a few steps of clear floor in front, keep the buffet out of the background and face the setup away from bright windows so faces stay evenly lit.

    Planning a June graduation?

Graduation demand peaks in June, so an early inquiry gives you more choice of dates and designs. Send us the date, venue and colours and we will reply with ideas.

    Three settings

Grad party decorations for home, hall and prom

Where you celebrate changes what is sensible to install. Below is how we usually approach the three settings we are asked about most, including what to check with the venue before you commit to a design. In every case the photo area is decided first and the rest follows.

At home or in the backyard

Home parties tend to be open-house style, with guests arriving in waves over an afternoon. Put the photo area where people naturally pause, such as the end of a living room or a fence line in the garden, and keep the entrance simple with a pair of balloon bouquets. Outdoors, balloons dislike direct sun and wind, so we favour shaded spots and ask you to name an indoor or covered backup in case the forecast turns.

Restaurant private rooms and banquet halls

A seated dinner needs decor that works around tables. One backdrop near the head of the room, balloon centrepieces low enough to talk over, and a photo booth along a side wall is a balanced plan. Ask the venue when suppliers can enter, which walls can be used and if helium or ceiling balloons are permitted. Many halls book two events in a day, which makes the setup window tight.

School proms and grad committee events

Prom decorations have to impress a large group and photograph well in low light. We suggest an entrance moment, such as a garland arch over the doors, one or two photo stations so lines stay short, and ceiling or floor balloons to fill a gym or ballroom. Committees usually need an itemized quote for approval, and schools often have their own rules on access times, helium and supervision, which we follow.

Send a photo of the room or yard along with rough measurements. We will suggest a design that fits the wall, the ceiling height and the budget you have in mind.

    Colour and personal detail

School colours, a name and one personal touch

Most graduation party decorations start with school colours, and that is a sound instinct, but two saturated colours can feel like a sports banner. We soften the palette with white, chrome gold or silver, and sometimes black for a sharper look beside a dark gown. If the graduate is heading to a new college or university, a second palette on the dessert table is a neat way to nod to what comes next.

Then add one detail that belongs only to this graduate. A custom name on the backdrop is a $35 add-on on several products, and a neon sign can be added for the same listed price. Marquee letters, plinths for the cake and diploma, and flower stands are available through our event extras. Families often bring framed photos from kindergarten onward, and we leave space on a plinth or table so that display sits inside the design.

    Timing and weather

June dates, hot days and outdoor setups

Graduation season is concentrated. University convocations, high school commencements and proms across the GTA cluster in late spring and June, and they share weekends with weddings and other summer celebrations. We do not set an artificial deadline, but the honest advice is to inquire as soon as you know the date. The 360 video booth listing asks for booking at least 2 weeks before the event.

Heat is the main enemy of balloons. In direct June sun, latex oxidizes, turns cloudy and can pop, and dark colours suffer first. For outdoor parties we recommend shade, lighter colours and installation as close to guest arrival as the schedule allows. Wind matters too: a freestanding wall or arch needs a sheltered position. Venue rules and our on-site team's guidance apply to helium, anchoring and anything inflatable.

Ceremony day itself is busy, with photos on campus, a family lunch and traffic. If the party is the same evening, arrange for someone other than the graduate's parents to let our team in. If you have flexibility, holding the party a day or a weekend later gives everyone a calmer celebration and usually a wider choice of setup times. Our balloon decoration page explains how long different installations last.

    Before you book

Venue and logistics questions to settle

A few answers up front make the quote faster and the day smoother.

    • What is the party date and time, and is it the same day as the ceremony?
    • Is the event at home, in a restaurant or hall, or at a school venue with its own supplier rules?
    • Which wall or corner will hold the photo area, and how wide and tall is it?
    • What are the school colours, and does the graduate want them softened or kept bold?
    • Which digits or name should appear, and how should the name be spelled?
    • Is there a power outlet near the photo area for LED numbers, a neon sign or a photo booth?
    • If outdoors, where is the shade, and what is the covered backup if it rains?
    • When can our team enter to set up, and who will meet them?
    • When does the space need to be cleared, and is takedown the same night or the next day?

    Questions

    Graduation: Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions parents, graduates and grad committees ask us most often.

How much do graduation decorations cost?

It depends on the pieces you choose, and our listings give a realistic starting point. Website-listed starting prices include a 12 ft balloon garland from $250, the 8 ft grass wall rental from $250, and one 4 ft marquee number with balloon decoration from $320. Add-ons such as a neon sign or custom name are listed at $35. The final price depends on location, timing, size and customization, which we confirm in your quote.

When should I book for a June graduation?

Inquire as soon as you know your date, because graduation demand peaks in June and weekends are shared with weddings and other summer events. We do not publish a cut-off date, and availability depends on the day and the size of the installation. The one stated lead time in our catalogue is for the 360 video booth, which should be booked at least 2 weeks before the event.

Can you display the full graduation year in marquee numbers?

Yes, our marquee numbers come in digits 0 to 9, so any year can be displayed. The catalogue lists pricing for one number from $320 and two numbers from $390 with balloon decoration, which suits a two-digit class year. A full four-digit year needs more width and more pieces, so we quote it individually. Allow a wall or floor area wide enough for all four digits and a group of people.

Can you match our school colours?

Yes, balloon colours can be chosen to match your school colours as closely as the available ranges allow. Send us the colours, or a photo of the school crest or gown, with your inquiry. We often add white, gold, silver or black so the palette looks polished rather than like a sports banner. If the graduate prefers their own favourite colours over the school's, we are happy to design around those instead.

Do you decorate proms and school graduation events?

Yes, we work with student councils, parent committees and school staff on prom and graduation events. Typical requests are an entrance arch, one or two photo stations, a shimmer wall and room balloons for a gym or ballroom. We provide an itemized quote that a committee can review and approve. Schools and venues often have their own rules on access times, helium and supervision, and we plan the setup around them.

Can graduation balloons be used outdoors?

Yes, but outdoor balloons need planning. Direct sun and heat make latex turn cloudy and pop sooner, and wind can move freestanding pieces. We recommend a shaded, sheltered position, lighter colours and installation close to the start time. Please name a covered or indoor backup location in case of rain. Venue rules and our on-site team's guidance apply to helium balloons, anchoring and any inflatable items on the day.

What is included in the grass wall rental?

The grass wall rental is listed as an artificial boxwood hedge wall with a balloon garland, measuring 8 ft wide by 8 ft high, with a website-listed price of $250. It works well as a photo background because the green is neutral beside any gown colour. Delivery, installation timing and any additions, such as a neon sign or marquee numbers in front, are confirmed in your quote based on the event location.

Is delivery, setup and takedown included?

It depends on the product, and we spell it out per item. Balloon garlands, marquee number designs and shimmer wall backdrops with balloons list delivery, installation and takedown as included. Balloon bouquets list delivery separately from $35. Both photo booths include setup and teardown. Prices may vary with the event location and time, so your written quote confirms exactly what is covered for your address and schedule.

Which photo booth is right for a grad party?

The 360 video booth suits lively parties and proms, since friends can step on together, up to five at a time, and share the clip instantly. The classic photo booth suits family gatherings where guests of all ages want a printed photo to take home. Both need a nearby power outlet and some clear floor space. Guests can also ask us about availability of a mirror photo booth.

Can you set up at my house?

Yes, we set up graduation parties at private homes, indoors or in the backyard. Send us a photo and rough measurements of the wall or area you have in mind, and tell us about stairs, narrow doorways or parking limits. Most backdrops need a flat surface and a little working room around them. If the space is small, a garland around a doorway or fireplace can be just as effective.

    Which areas do you serve?

We serve Toronto and the GTA from 126 Willowdale Ave in Toronto. Our team travels across the GTA, including North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Oakville, Ajax and Oshawa. Pricing may vary with the event location and time, and the 360 video booth listing notes that travel is extra outside the GTA. Include the venue address or nearest intersection in your inquiry so the quote is accurate.

How long will the balloons last?

Air-filled balloon garlands and backdrops installed indoors generally look good well beyond a single event, while helium-filled latex balloons float for a much shorter time. Heat, sunlight and humidity shorten the life of any balloon. That is why we schedule installation close to your event and prefer air-filled designs on frames for graduation photo areas. If you want the decor to stay up for a second day, tell us in advance.

Can I add my graduate's name to the backdrop?

Yes, a custom name on the backdrop is listed as a $35 add-on on several of our balloon backdrop products, and a custom name on a balloon bouquet is a $35 add-on. Please send the exact spelling, including accents and capital letters, when you confirm. We also rent marquee letters and neon signs through our party rentals range if you would like a larger or illuminated name detail.
